Since our last wine club release we have ushered in a New Year and a new vintage of wines. Once the chaos of harvest subsides, the real “magic” happens in the cellar. Wine making is a delicate balance of biology, chemistry, and a fair amount of heavy lifting. There is fermentation, racking, aging, blending, fining, cold stabilization and bottling to name a few. Even though it appears quiet in the Winter it is far from that at the winery.
We are monitoring winter weather and preparing for the 2026 season. While we’ve faced recent cold snaps, we remain confident in our hardy hybrid varieties. The family will soon begin hand-pruning all 7 acres before spring bud break begins. This process is long and chilly, lasting from February until April. Timing is everything in a vineyard. Pruning before bud break (the moment those tiny fuzzy buds first open and start pushing out green shoots) is imperative for vine health and grape quality.
The winery remains a hub of activity throughout Winter.
